The Extension of the House |

Along the lines of the urban renewal plan for Orani, published in the magazine "Interiors" in 1953. "Orani Pergolato"—as the project was called—is, for the moment, only a powerful idea in the values it attempts to protect and promote. The pergola as an extension of the house and as a place where people meet in quiet and al fresco: a tool for rebuilding neighborhoods; a place to find community dialogue, and to dissolve the acid of impenetrable and isolated lives. In this art form, nature and culture meet on equal terms. Nivola seems to bring about this connection by means of a radical choice.
